Kye has ALWAYS been on the slower end when it comes to his teeth! He took longer for his baby teeth to come through and has taken longer to lose them all as well as have his adult teeth grow in too. This has actually been a good thing as he has a smaller jaw and it’s allowing time for his jaw to grow in order to accommodate the adult teeth.
We have had a few visits to the orthodontist in planning and prepping for Invisalign/braces. On a recent visit, they recommended for he to have 4 teeth pulled in order to create the room needed for his adult teeth to finish growing in.
Since he already had his well check visit scheduled I went ahead and scheduled his extractions for prior. SO DUMB OF ME. Bless his heart! The extractions were a pretty intense experience.
Britt has had a tooth pulled at the dentist and it was a BREEZE for her but it was also a baby tooth that was ready to come out on its own soon anyway. These were molars that weren’t “ready” so it was much more intense.
We also didn’t go in really knowing exactly what would be happening so he wasn’t prepared going in which I feel so bad about! He did AMAZING for the entire thing though and was very thankful for the popsicle reward 😉
We had to go from the extractions to the well check. Bless. He was pretty miserable and thankful to have the popsicle stick to chew on throughout the visit! Thankfully we didn’t have a long wait and weren’t there for too long either 🙂
Kye’s appointment was on April 19th and he’d been counting DOWN to find out his height. I’ve told him I won’t admit he’s officially taller than I am until a dr confirms it 😉
At his 12 year old well visit Kye was 85.54 lbs and is in the 45th percentile and he was 59.25 inches tall which is the 60th percentile.
At 13 years old Kye is 103 lbs (50th percentile) and 63.75 inches tall (75th percentile). Yup, he’s def taller than his mama as he’s now 5’3.75″
INSANE to compare the two years and see that he’s gained over TWENTY POUNDS and 4 inches! This is the first time in his life that he’s in a higher percentile for height and the dr predicts he won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
What’s even funnier to me is that even with allllll that growth…he’s wearing the same shirt at his 13 year well check that he wore to his 12 year one haha. He’s ALL LEGS yall. Seriously! His shirts all fit but I have to keep buying him new pants!
They also said his vision continues to be great with 20/20 on his eye exam portion.
During the exam portion of the visit we discussed his allergies as it seems to be something that is starting to be bothersome for him. We live in an area where allergies aren’t just seasonal – they are year round.
They suggested doing Zyrtec for him when they act up and possibly adding in Flonase when congested as well. 2 sprays in each nostril once a day as needed!
With Zach’s Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis I always ask at the kids well checks if we need to do any testing or be on the look out for any auto immune disease symptoms etc. I know science is always changing and I like to check-in and make sure we’re up to speed on things.
The continued recommendation is to just make sure the kids are getting high daily doses of Vitamin D which is what we do!
During the exam they checked Kye’s back for any curvature and sure enough, noted that his right shoulder appears to be a bit higher than his left. They said his left leg is still a bit longer than his right leg and they ordered another bone scan to better take a look at things.
They are confident he does, at this point, have mild scoliosis but they didn’t know the degree of curvature until we get the scans back.
Overall it was a great check-up and crazy surprising to see the amount of growth he’s had in just one year. I guess we can officially say he’s taller than his 5’1″ mama huh?
My sweet baby is GROWING UP!
His mouth was still in a decent bit of pain after the numbing wore off so rather than grab lunch we just drove through and picked up a milkshake for him to sip on and then headed home so he could enjoy his day off from school with plenty of chill time and video game time 😉
As always I’m so thankful for a healthy report! And I also cracked up at his tooth fairy note that night…slightly milking it?? 😉
