This was a BIG appointment this morning! I’m thankful we had Disney last week because I really didn’t start to think about today’s appointment until the end of our trip. And once I did start to think about it, I was nervous. I mean Disney went SO perfectly! I was worried that maybe God was blessing us with an amazing trip to help soften the blow of bad news about Leo. I know that is a silly way to think about things. But like our preacher always says “either you are in a valley, coming out of a valley, or about to go into a valley.” Things have been going SO WELL for us here this past week that I have been anticipating the next valley to come!
I did my best not to let the devil steal my joy and tried not to worry. With Kye I didn’t worry AT ALL. With Britt, I was a NERVOUS wreck. Literally I went into this appointment with her fully 100% expecting bad news. Which is so sad! This time I’d say I was def a better balance. Somewhat worried but not overly concerned either. I trust in the Lord and knew that whatever the news would be that we’d get through it!
If you remember, this was the appointment with Britt where I peed my pants haha. I chugged SO MUCH water that I literally couldn’t hold it in and ran into the dr office with my pants unzipped and napkins in my panties to catch the pee as it came out. No joke! This time I did NOT let myself overly stress with water intake. I drank two of my Tervis Tumblers full of water and still drank my meal replacement shake as usual. I def felt the need to pee but it wasn’t super intense or anything and it really allowed me to ENJOY the ultrasound more because I wasn’t uncomfortable!
Our appointment was at 8:30 and Zach came with me! We did decide to not bring either child this time. We are doing a 4D ultrasound in April and will have them there for that so we wanted to just be us and Leo today π
The tech who did the ultrasound is someone I’d never met before. I had heard she wasn’t the sweetest person ever so I didn’t do a ton of small talk and made sure not to ask too many questions during everything. I knew Stacy would go over it with us so there was no need to ask her anyway!
First we saw the head and brain and then the stomach and heart. Y’all. Seeing that sweet heart beating and being able to see all four chambers was a HUGE BLESSING. I don’t think I have ever gotten emotional with either of my last pregnancies during an ultrasound? But I for real had tears!!!
We heard the heart beat and it was 146. Leo is also weighing 8 oz. We got to see toes and fingers and the spine and the precious profile! My favorite part was when Leo yawned! It was SO cute!!!! At one point he or she also had their little thumb sticking out towards the mouth like it was sucking it! PRECIOUS. It was THE BEST ultrasound we’ve ever had! We have a DVD of it and I’m excited to watch it this afternoon with the kids!
We did bring an envelop along and it felt super strange telling her we wanted her to find out the sex! First time for us! She stopped recording the dvd before she looked “down there” and had us look at each other so we wouldn’t see anything. I think it was an advantage that we don’t know her and that she is an “all business” type personality because she didn’t give ANYTHING away! She sealed the envelope for us and did NOT put the sex in our chart! I’m hoping to finish up nursery decisions this week so I can mail off the results to my Top Secret Friend π
After the ultrasound we went back to see Stacy. They checked my blood pressure and said it looks great. I did have to have some blood work done after the appointment and they said my hemoglobin also looks great!
Stacy walked in and immediately told us that we have a PERFECT, HEALTHY BABY!!! Legit, I sighed in relief and I think I even said “whew!” So, so, SO thankful!!!!!!!! She showed us everything on a form that said every single body part is on point where it should be and on target for my due date. Growth is perfect and everything is wonderful! Praise the LORD π
I decided to opt out of the big testing for downs and such. Stacy agreed that it’s not worth risking a false positive when the ultrasound clearly showed ZERO concerns π
I did have a couple other questions for her:
- I asked about requesting my labor and delivery nurse. Good news is that Elizabeth IS still practicing. Bad news is that she’s on morning duty only so unless I go into labor between 7 am and 3 pm I won’t be able to have her. Both of my previous labors she came in at 3. Stacy also said the hospital is pretty strict about stuff and that she wouldn’t be allowed to come in unless she was scheduled. I told Stacy that as long as SHE is there I will be okay without Elizabeth π Although in a perfect world I’d get to have them BOTH π
- I asked about the whopping cough vaccine. At a prior appointment Stacy had said that NO ONE should hold our baby for the first 3 MONTHS unless they have had the vaccine. We talked about it and she said going in public and such is fine with Leo but just to make sure no one holds him or her. Like keep him or her in the infant car seat or in a sling. A girl who attends Stacy’s church actually had her newborn die from Pertussis so it’s not something to take lightly and is something I WILL be really strict about!!!
I am SO happy with how our ultrasound pictures turned out! They really are the best ones ever, especially when I went back and compared them to Kye’s and Britt’s at this point. Just FYI…Britt was bigger than Leo (9 oz) and had a lower heart rate (134). And Kye actually had EXACTLY the same heart rate (146) as well as was the exact same weight (8 oz). When we left the appointment I wasn’t leaning one way or the other…but seeing those comparisons makes me kinda think boy huh? Although if you look at the pictures I do think that profile looks similar to Britt’s. Although all babies probably look exactly the same at this point haha!
You can see Kye’s Ultrasound HERE and Britt’s Ultrasound HERE!
Front of face and you can see the little fingers curled up
(btw…I have no clue who Emily Price is?!?!)
Profile that also shows stomach and leg (Zach said the leg could be something else…haha)
LOVE this sweet little foot!!!
Another profile one, cute nose and fingers!
Isn’t this the BEST ultrasound picture? I mean I’ve never framed any of my ultrasounds but this one is tempting! I LOVE IT. You can see the fingers and toes too!
I am so, so, so relieved and thankful and just overwhelmed with joy that our baby is healthy and just so precious. We have been beyond blessed and I don’t take ANY of our blessings for granted. I feel so much more connected to Leo now that I can SEE him or her! The kids loved seeing the pictures! Kye said it must be a boy because it doesn’t have any hair (haha) and Britt said “nom nom nom” and acted like she wanted to eat it? I assume it’s because Leo is so sweet…and not that Britt is a cannibal π
I think the 4D ultrasound will be SO FUN! I’m excited for Kye and Britt to be with us π And I think I’m going to take Britt along to my next regular visit next month as it’s just a heart beat visit and she might enjoy it π
Thank you for the prayers! SO happy to be able to report such wonderful news!!!

Love those sweet profiles on u/s! If that leg is "something else", then it's huge. Haha! I'm guessing boy though!
You did get some good pics! Ultrasounds are just the best! Praising God that the baby is healthy.
I vote girl π glad everything is well
Hello. Great pictures! Can you please give us an update on what you’d end up having? My ultrasound now is similar to yours and I was wondering on the gender. Hope to hear back from you. Please email me if you can
