I really, really felt like this summer FLEW by us! Before I knew it, school was fixin’ to start back and I wanted to end our time together the best way I could π
First up I couldn’t believe that we’d gone ALL summer without enjoying some nice cold popsicles out on our porch. I make the popsicles using V8 Fushion and Naked Juice (I know about the lawsuit and, yes, I filed to get some money from it!) so they are a “healthy” treat! We ate lunch early one day and I surprised the kids with their popsicle time!
Kye showed Britt how it’s done!
Who likes popsicles?
MEEEEEE!
It’s pretty obvious why they are stripped down for this adventure π
Britt was NOT a big fan! Maybe because she’s never had juice to drink?
Within minutes the kids (and the porch) were covered in melted popsicle. Welcome to South Georgia! I let them jump in the pool to rinse off before heading in for naps. I think the quick swim was more exciting than eating the popsicles!!!
Britt slipped off the step and fell so it was a chance for me to see how she would do with her survival swim lessons. It’s SUPER hard as a parent not to FREAK OUT in that kind of situation, but I stay calm and kinda sit back to observe how she handles it. I was SO PROUD because she just got into her starfish and floated like a big girl!!!
Then she was back to having fun!
While on the hunt for fun things to do around town, without spending a lot of money, I decided one morning to get out of the house and take the kids to Publix. Since they never get to go grocery shopping with me, they never really have enjoyed the awesomeness that is the free cookie. Man, I have some yummy memories of getting that cookie when I was a kid! They also hooked them up with free balloons and they were in HEAVEN! It kept them so entertained and I fully plan on making Publix a regular stop when we just NEED to get out of the house! π
Last year before school started we started a new tradition: donut day! I took Kye and Britt and got donuts together and it was super fun! This year I made it even more special by having a donut LUNCH. I know, craziness! My friend Kori actually happened to drive by the donut place while we were there and totally thinks I’m like a super cool mom now for sure π
I had a hair appointment that afternoon so I was taking the kids out to Mrs. Charlotte’s for naps. I figured it made sense to leave early and eat our donuts on the way to her house rather than create a special outing just for the donuts! Last year Britt was SO TINY which is so crazy to me. I mean I can’t believe how much she has grown and changed in just one year!!! The kids got to each pick out what kind of donut they wanted π
Kye telling the cashier his selection π
So crunk he looks like he’s almost cross-eyed haha!
Happy for Donut Day!!!
I kept the meal healthy by packing milk, grapes, and veggie drink things. I mean that makes it a good-for-you lunch, right? π
Yes, I even poured myself some milk and brought it with me to drink with my donut haha There’s nothing quite like some milk and donuts…but I wasn’t about to pay for something I already had at home!
The news was on in the background which did bother me. I just don’t like the kids seeing (or hearing) about all the horrible things going on in our world. I want to keep them as innocent as I can for as long as possible π I had Kye sit where the tv was behind him, but he could still hear a lot of the stories they were discussing and he had lots of questions. I guess it was a pretty educational outing! These faces he’s making are pretty humorous, I think he shares his daddy’s views on our current political situation π
Trying to see the tv haha
It was a successful trip!!!
One other lovely summer event was basketball. Zach and Jordan started up a men’s basketball league. Let me just say that it was one summer “fun” thing that I didn’t mind seeing come to an end!!! In all seriousness though, I think it’s really neat that the two of them are so close and got something like this started together!!! It was a legit thing with several teams and refs and everything! Next time though I hope they have it on a different night so it won’t interfere with our Bachelorette watchin’ time π I was able to go watch one game and I’m so glad I did. Sitting in the stands like that brought back SO MANY memories and it was pretty sexy seeing my man look good on the court π He still has skills for sure but I muchhhhh prefer cheering on football! Zach’s team did end up winning the entire tournament!!! He was PUMPED! I hate that I missed the final game because I heard Zach really brought his “a game” even after dislocating his shoulder. Like I said, he’s got the skills π
Even though this summer had some tough times, I do always want to look back and try to see all the wonderful moments. I’m thankful that we had SO MANY great times during this summer and I know we made memories to help keep me strong with Kye back in school π
