I’m not sure if all obs/hospitals work this way but when I had Tess they told me at the hospital to make sure I scheduled my 6 week postpartum visit. 1st baby? I’m sure I booked it within a week of being home. 2nd baby? I probably wrote a reminder to myself to call and made sure to do it soon. 3rd baby? I totally and completely forgot to even remind myself to call π
I think I finally made the appointment when Tess was 4 weeks old. I ended up having to reschedule due to Zach being gone and me having thrush! So I rescheduled and totally didn’t think about the fact that Britt is home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I took the only appointment they had and it was on a Thursday morning (the day Tess turned 7 weeks old) and was with a nurse practitioner, not even a midwife.
I was interested to see how everything would go with having both girls with me! After being without the big kids to deal with the thrush, I was ready and eager for the challenge of the two kids out and about!
Tess went down for her first nap in the car seat and we headed out π
Thankfully it was a very short wait. I brought along a notepad for Britt and she was perfectly content taking notes!
The nurse practitioner I saw was great! Of course I missed Stacy but she was busy at home with her new baby too π
First off she went ahead and did the check. I was concerned about Britt being in the room for that! But Britt stayed near my head and was fine and the nurse was super fast. She said everything was back to normal! I wish the rest of my body recovered that quickly π
The “big item” for discussion at the 6 week visit is the clearance question…good to go to do the deed?!?! She talked to me about nursing and intercourse and how important it is to use lubrication as nursing tends to cause dryness (she recommended Astro Glide in case anyone is reading this and wanting to know what to use!)
We spent most of our time talking about thrush and yeast. So fun π I showed her my left nipple (my “bad nipple”) and she couldn’t BELIEVE I am nursing on that beast! She said it was so, so bad and that I needed to stop nursing and just exclusively pump and to put plain A&D Ointment on it to help it heal. I didn’t follow either piece of advice haha. I am NOT willing to exclusively pump. So I just kept on nursing her through the pain of that breast.
We also talked about my body’s tendency to get yeast and how I could prevent it from happening. She had some GREAT tips I’d never heard before! She recommended to always wear WHITE cotton panties because the dye in the colored panties couldn’t be causing me to build up yeast. RANDOM! She also said to always wash with plain Dove soap as it helps to keep that balance.
I didn’t have any other questions and was more eager to get out of there to get home in time to nurse Tess by her 10:00 feeding. Britt did AWESOME and behaved SO well. She even got a sucker at the end! And Tess was an angel baby and slept the whole time for me π
Britt loves to make crazy faces haha
Only normal smile I could get from her π
Sweet baby girl!
Glad for a good appointment…I BETTER see the scale looking greatly improved the next time I visit the OB (next year!) I’m so glad to be done with that place for awhile!
