Today I’m sharing the letter to my 7 year old daughter, Britt, on her birthday. Please enjoy and feel free to share!
Birthday letters are a super special way to give your child a meaningful gift that they can appreciate more and more as time goes on… as well as a sweet way to show how much you love them!
Not everybody is great at expressing themselves with words, but sometimes it’s easier to write things down versus trying to say them. Plus, your child may not remember what you said (even if they appreciated it!) but they can always reread a letter. That’s what makes them such valuable keepsakes!
My birthday letters to my children vary depending on the year, but more or less you’ll find these same elements in all of them:
- A recap of the year and their achievements, in and out of school
- My favorites things about them
- How their relationships with parents, siblings, and friends have grown
- Of course, lots of love and encouragement!
On each of my kids’ eighteenth birthdays, I plan on making a book of all the birthday letters their father and I have written to them over the years and giving it to them as a gift!
As they enter adulthood (and possibly go off to college… hopefully not too far away!) I hope those letters can serve as a keepsake of their childhood and a reminder of how much their family loves them!
Below is the letter to my daughter on her 7th birthday, written by her mama, me! You are more than welcome to use this as inspiration or as a template for your own “happy 7th birthday to my daughter” letter.
Happy 7th Birthday to My Daughter Letter
Dear Britt,
Being your mom has been such a gift. From the day you were born you have challenged me in ways that has pushed me to be a better mom and person. We are different in so many ways and those differences compliment each other and help each other both reach our fullest potentials. You bless my life every single day!
You are my sunshine. You light up every room. You make everyone smile and laugh and give the world’s best kisses. You are so full of energy. You wake up talking and talking and go to bed talking and talking and spend every minute in-between the two talking some more 😉
You are like me in your intense level of extrovertedness. You just love people and feed off that energy from communicating with others. You are also like your daddy with your high energy and the combination of the two is going to make you so successful in life. I can just see you in a mothering roll doing all the things all the time and still able to fully connect and bond with your children!
You love talking but you also crave physical touch. You always ask for snuggles and I try to really hold you or touch you in some way when we talk. I know it’s the way you best receive love right now and I try to always make sure you know how loved you are and that you’re given that love in the way you best receive it.
This has been such an incredible year with you. You have grown up in so many ways and I love watching you become an amazing young woman. You are so smart and have done so well with learning to read. School is fun to you and you always say that learning is your favorite thing.
It’s been important to me to parent your heart and I can truly see the fruits of that labor this year. You have become much more optimistic and more aware of other’s feelings. You love Jesus with all your heart and now that you can read, reading His Word has been huge for you each day with your outlook. And you inspire me to do the same!
You are so caring and mindful of wanting everyone to be happy and have fun. You balance being a younger and older sister so well. You adore Kye and look up to him in so many ways but you also lead Tess by your example and enjoy having her tag along behind you. You took a little time to really warm up to Spear but as he gets older you have become more and more involved with him and I know he’ll admire you the way you do Kye soon!
This phase of life with you is so FUN. You want to be just like your mama and I soak up every second of it. I pray I am setting an example that you will want to immolate in your own life. I love when we match or when we do our hair the same. I love how proud you are to be like me and be my daughter. My goal is to never let that fade and for our bond to only strengthen as you age!
I love our quality time together. Getting coffee, painting nails, moments at Disney. I truly just enjoy you. Enjoy our time. Enjoy listening to you and sharing with you. You are a great friend to your peers and a great daughter to me!
California was so amazing this year. You are my future travel buddy for sure as you just LOVE it. You were so beyond excited and the trip was nothing short of magical. Now you’re next dream is to visit Hawaii and I’m totally there for it 😉
You may be very extroverted but, so far, it seems like you are a one friend kinda girl. I was the same way growing up and it can be a huge blessing but also huge heartache. I pray as you get older that you’re able to broaden your friendship groups and to find true friends who will build you up and love you as you are.
It is so important to be a good friend, but also to just be kind to everyone. Even if you don’t want to be their “BFF” I pray you will always be an included and help others feel wanted and cared about. Raising a girl in the culture today is tough. I know you will experience times where girls are mean to you and where you may be mean to others. I’m here for you through it all sweet girl. I’ve been there. I know. And we will get through those tougher spots together!
I always tell you how special you are to me. You are the daughter I had always dreamed of and our relationship is one I take very seriously. My relationship with my mom wasn’t (and isn’t) ideal. I never want that for us. I try hard to take the good things from the bond I had with her and also to learn from the more negative aspects. I’m not perfect, I never will be but I hope you know how hard I try!
I am so interested to see where your life will take you in the future. You are passionate about gymnastics and have dreams of being a “baker” someday. You also say you want to have three kids because “four is just too many” ha!
You are not a child who plays with toys. For you it’s ALL about people AND all about being outdoors. You love the outdoors and you have made our ownership of a playground well worth it!!!
This last year has been amazing with our big trip but also all of our Disney adventures. The beach was a blast together and you are just always down for going and doing and creating memories!
I am so excited where the year ahead will lead you. You change SO MUCH every year and I know a lot of that is due to your crazy amount of teeth losing already! I think you’re at 8 right now? It’s so neat to see how your smile evolves and changes and I’m sure it’ll change even more. You also are talking about wanting to grow out your hair for an “Elsa braid” so we will see how that goes 😉
You are so great at self reflection and personal growth, even at such a young age. I was so proud when you said your goal for 2018 was to be brave for your flu shot. You were disappointed in yourself in how you handled it the year prior and then you stepped it UP big time and were SO brave when it came time for the flu shot in 2018. I know whatever you want to achieve in life you WILL do it! You have that goal setting mindset and to be so young with that skill is HUGE!
You finished up kindergarten this year and are now currently a first grader. You tested into the gifted program and it’s so neat that both you and Kye are in the program together. You are both so different in the ways you are gifted and I love seeing your talents develop and your creativity shine!
I am excited for the fun trips we have planned together this year. I feel like with your athletic abilities that you are going to TAKE OFF on the ski slopes and I also know you’re going to LOVE the water slides at Great Wolf Lodge! You are always so, so appreciative and grateful for everything we do and it makes experiences with you even more special.
I am truly blessed to be your mother and take the role of your mom very, very seriously. I want you to always know I’m proud of you and thankful for you and want nothing but the best for you in all that you do!
Happy 7th Birthday to my precious girl. I love you, my sunshine!
