The end of the 2021-2022 school year was the end of an era for me as a mama.
Up until now all of my babies have attended half day preschool until kindergarten (Kye actually even attended half day kindergarten and didn’t go full day until 1st grade!).
Through a lot of prayer and discussion Zach and I made the decision to have Spear attend full day Pre-K in the fall. It just makes the most sense. He’s able to be with both Britt and Tess (if we waited until Kinder Britt would be in middle school) for the year. We also knew building a house would be a LOT of added work and time that just having the couple of hours between pick ups would allow.
Plus Spear is more than ready and capable! He loves school, loves friends, and we knew he’d thrive in a full day environment!
I was really content with the decision but struggled a LOT with the thought of losing my morning time with JUST Spear, especially our time running errands together.
Spear is a BUSY kinda kid and running errands? It allows me to truly ENJOY him in a special way! He is confined to the shopping cart and faces me the whole time and we talk, laugh, shop, and even snuggle.
Our favorite place though is our Sam’s Jams.
As I walked around with him on our last Sam’s visit before his last day of school I held it together okay…until I noticed all the old people. It hit me that I would soon be “those people.” The people with a kid-less cart. The one smiling knowingly at the young mothers. The one reminding them “you’re going to miss this.”
I could not stop the tears from flowing. I cried up and down every aisle! It was so much crying that a random lady stopped me and prayed for me (which was SO SWEET and she also dropped a plug for her YouTube channel haha).
These have been special moments with my baby boy. While I know it’s time for them to come to an end, I’m also not ready to let go!
I shared this on Instagram and cried the whole time putting it together too 🙂
Spear had his last day of half day preschool and this mama closed a chapter of life – goodbye half day preschool days. I’m so thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to be home with my babies and to be able to have these short school days with them all.
Has there ever been a more fitting award? 🙂
First day vs last day comparison!
Spear’s preschool finished up for the year about a week or so before the big kids were finished!
Last day as a 7th grader – only one year left until HIGH SCHOOL! The amount Kye has changed from the first to last day is crazyyyyy.
Last day as a 4th grader – Britt is ready for 5th!
And last day of 2nd grade for sweet little Tessie!
Tess’s teacher retired and gifted Tess a TON of her classroom stuff. Tess was super pumped for summertime while Britt sobbed when she got off the bus. She was so sad to leave her friends and nervous as to what the next year would bring.
We dried our tears with some kick-off to summer FUN!
The last day of school is a half day so we met up with the cousins for some snowcones!
And thennnn later that afternoon we met up with MORE friends for ice cream. Summertime Emily just might be the coolest mom 😉 It was our first time at Lawson’s Peach Shed and it was so good!
I especially appreciated having Wake with us – it’s so nice having another friend with a little one Spear’s age. Lindsay and I chased them the whole time while Summer and Kami got to visit and talk.
Excited for the sweet memories summer brings and thankful for the wonderful school years the kids all had!
