What are the best gift ideas 2 year olds, whether you’re shopping for a birthday, Christmas, or just for fun? This two year old gift guide will give you plenty of options to choose from!
The age from two to three is a lot of growth and development.
Toddlers transition from the exploring age of one to the more imaginative age of two.
This is a fun time to build upon toys that were purchased as a one year old and many of the toys enjoys as a one year old can still be very much enjoyed at two but on an entirely new level!
—-> Be sure to check out my recommendations for the best toys for one year olds here!
Many of my toy gift guides will build upon each other as it’s always nice to add-on to toys you already own rather than starting an entirely new collection! Here are my top gift ideas for 2 year olds, whether you’re shopping for a little girl or little boy, or looking for something any child can enjoy!

The Best Toys for Toddlers
These are the best gift ideas for 2 year olds that I’ve found! Perfect for a second birthday gift, Christmas gift, or a just-because present 🙂
While all toys can be enjoyed by both boys and girls, I like to break my lists into categories.
Gift Ideas for Two Year Olds: Gender Neutral
I have both sons and daughters and have found that my children often stick to gender stereotypes when it comes to their favorite toy items, but I also gravitate towards buying neutral items when possible to make it easier to pass them down to siblings too!
B toys Drumroll Please 7 Musical Instruments Toy Drum Kit
We had this set for our oldest child and it’s been passed down to each sibling and is a well played with and loved musical instrument.
I know many parents can’t stand musical toys but I love that these instruments are simple and don’t require any batteries!
Definitely one of those gift ideas for 2-year-olds that would be perfect for your next toddler dance party 🙂

Fisher-Price Little People Big Yellow Bus
This little school bus is one of my top gifts. I love Little People and they are great for little kids to learn role play with easy to hold figurines that are just the right size for their small hands to hold.
The open-top makes it easy to put the figurines in and out! Any Little People toys are a favorite thing for 2-year-old birthday gifts or Christmas presents.

ABC Stickers in the Tub
A Bath toy gift is always a big win to me and one of my favorite gifts to give and receive for my kids.
At this age toddlers can handle smaller pieces and I love these stickers that “stick” to the side of the tub and on the tile.
Even just the bag is fun to put things in and out of over and over!

Radio Flyer My 1st Wagon
Little ones at this age love to tote items. Mine have all enjoyed this little wagon!
It’s the perfect size to stack up all their stuffed animals or toys or random household items and then carry them around the house. A sibling or two may also fit from time to time 😉
It’d also be adorable sitting out with their birthday gifts or Christmas presents stacked in it!

Magnetic Drawing Board for Kids and Toddlers
Two-year-olds really evolve in their eye coordination and motor skills.
They may not yet be able to hold a pencil correctly and be able to control writing, but mine have all enjoyed these simple magnetic doodle pads for early scribbles and writing practice.
This set is great because it comes with a smaller version – I like to use these in the car, for road trips, and for church services in their quiet bag.

LeapFrog Chat and Count Smart Phone
Every mom knows kids love to try to play with their phones.
We own TONS of play phones in our house and they ALL get well loved and well played with but this one is among the top.
The buttons are easy to press and the screen is more interactive to give imaginative play for the child to feel like they are really talking on the phone.

Melissa + Doug Wooden Chunky Puzzle
These chunky puzzles are among my FAVORITE items! I store them in my kitchen to be able to grab quickly when I’m trying to cook dinner.
They are among my favorite Busy Bag Items!
Two-year-olds have more advanced fine motor skills but still have those chubby baby hands that make it difficult to manage smaller puzzle pieces so these large chucky puzzles are perfect.
We own every single one of these as well as several others! Perfect for helping to learn animal sounds, shapes and colors!

Play Kitchen Toy Sink Playset
Water play is always a fun time for this age group and as toddlers learn about the tasks the family participates in they want to mimic and copy everything the adults and older children do so this sink is SO FUN.
Even without the water option my toddler loves to load and unload the sink and the utensils can easily be used with play food items too!

Washable Finger Paint for Toddlers
Craft time is something I like to slowly introduce with my toddlers. Because, hello MESS and the struggle of things often ending up in the mouth.
Washable is key when it comes to crafting with little ones and finger painting is a perfect first-craft as children at this stage have better hand control but aren’t quite yet able to master holding a paintbrush. The bright colors are engaging and a great addition to any art kit.

Play-Doh Over 40-Piece Fun Factory
I wouldn’t recommend starting play-doh as an early two-year-old but I think play-doh is an excellent set as a birthday present because it’s one of those gift ideas for 2 year olds that they can grow into.
We don’t own a ton of play-doh sets. I purchased this one for my oldest child when he was first old enough to enjoy playing with it and it’s held the test of time and is PLENTY of options for creative play-doh experiences!

Wood Block Set
With developed eye coordination comes the ability to go beyond just stacking building blocks up and knocking them over to beginning to build creations and enjoy a variety of shapes for building projects.
Many people love Lego Duplo but I like to wait to introduce those!
This is another item that will grow with your toddler and allow additional items to be added on as they get older to increase enjoyment and keep them occupied for longer periods of time.
This block set is not only gorgeous but is heirloom quality to pass down to future grandbabies and has SO many activities beyond just basic building blocks! We have this set and LOVE IT so much – all four of my kids enjoy it!

Kitchen Pretend Play Stainless Steel Cookware Pots and Pans Set
My current almost two year old is OBSESSED with my kitchen utensils and pots and pans. He loves to “cook” in the kitchen and I’m getting him this set for Christmas this year.
Food play is a favorite among toddlers and this set is “just like mommy’s” which makes it more fun and goes well with the toy sink too!

Kids Shopping Cart
Not only is a shopping cart a fun toy to go along with pretend food so your child can “grocery shop” but it’s completely fun on it’s own as well.
Perfect for loading up with random toys and stuffed animals and fun to push around the house!
We own this one in both the blue and pink and they are a nice size too – not super small (our older kids can play with them) but also not too big where they take up a lot of space.
The plastic wheels are also nice because we don’t have to worry about our floor getting damaged

Jumbo 12-Digit Desktop Calculator
Why is a massive calculator on gift guide for a two year old? Because they will LOVE IT. Trust me. All the buttons are SO FUN.
Such a simple thing that will bring countless amounts of JOY.

First Look and Find Activity Book
We own a solid dozen of these Look and Find books. Literally. They make fantastic gifts ideas for 2 year olds and are phenomenal for the car, church, doctor’s appointments or just some quiet time. This is not a words book – there is no reading involved which really allows for open-ended storytelling.
Toddlers love to point at things and name them and Look and Find books are great for practicing this skill! They make tons of different characters and I love the HUGE size and the board book material to really last!

20 Piece Jumbo Washable Sidewalk Chalk
When toddlers drop the morning nap it can be a struggle to fill the morning timeslot and outside time is a great way to wear ’em out for that cherished afternoon nap!
Jumbo sized sidewalk chalk is great for toddler’s to be able to handle on their own to make their beautiful driveaway artwork. Also makes a great gift for a birthday present as every kid can always use some chalk!

LeapFrog 2-in-1 LeapTop Touch, Green
LeapFrog Scout is so great for early learning! I am not a HUGE fan of gift ideas for 2 year olds that are heavily “tech based.” I prefer toys that allow for imagination and open-ended play. However, this little computer has been a favorite for all four of our kids.
The computer has the ability to play games on the screen but most of all my kids always enjoyed it to play pretend! It’s great for when they play house and have someone “at work” and mine even made a little briefcase to carry it around in!

My First Library Board Book Block 12-Book Set
These mini-board books are awesome. The box it all comes in is just as much as a gift as the books themselves.
So fun to carry around and the front stays closed nicely even when being transported. It’s also great for the fine motor practice when using their little hands to fit the books into the box just right so the lid can close.
Of course we love all things Disney and like to create a love for and recognition of Disney characters to prepare our kids for their first trips!

Trampoline for Kids with Handle
While I love sending my kids outside to play, it’s also important to have indoor activity options too.
Kids of all ages enjoy fun active play jumping on the trampoline. We keep this in our playroom and all of the kids love it! The bar is great for the younger age to be able to hold on and jump, jump, jump!

Think your kids are ready for a larger backyard trampoline? Read this post for my pick!
Melissa + Doug First Play Frolicking Frog Wooden Pull Toy
As a two-year-old your child will most likely be confident in their mobile abilities with walking and running and having a pull-along toy is very fun for all young children and a fun way to get that toddler energy OUT!

Little Tikes Pack ‘n Go Trike
I loved this little trike when my oldest was this age! We would use it to go on walks around the neighborhood. It was fantastic because I could push it like a stroller but it also had the ability for him to peddle as well as lower down the handle and he could push too. I also love investing in items that grow with your child and can be changed over time to be enjoyed in multiple stages!

Disney Mickey Mouse and Friends Bath Toys for Baby
I do NOT use these toys in the bathtub. They have holes in the bottom that allow water and mold to grow.
However, we love these tub toy sets for the kids to play with and these figures are great for toddlers to play with without having to worry about small pieces.
And, of course, we love anything Disney!

Subscription Play Kits
These make GREAT gift ideas for 2 year olds that keep giving all year long. A subscription service that sends a new package to your doorstep every few months with items directed at your child’s current developmental stage. Gorgeous toys that LAST! A fabulous item to put on grandma’s gift list!

Best Gifts for a 2 Year Old Boy
At two years old, boys are SO FUN and wild and adventurous and it’s an age where my sons both developed their own, unique, personalities and started to have their own interests in things they enjoyed!
Of course, all of the gender neutral gift ideas for 2 year olds above are excellent for boys or girls and many of them have color options if you want something more gender specific, but these items are ones I consider more “boy toys”:
Green Toys Dump Truck in Yellow and Red
In my opinion every boy needs a dump truck!
Green Toys make excellent quality toys for kids that are durable and fun! Your son will love putting things in and dumping them out over and over.

Jurassic World Super Colossal Tyrannosaurus Rex
I want this SO BAD for my upcoming two-year-old but my husband won’t let me get it so someone else needs to 😉
It’s MASSIVE. Boys at this age start to really love dinosaurs and how fun is this for “eating” smaller ones? Such a cool toy that is probably the same size as your toddler!

Melissa + Doug Stacking Train
Trucks and choo-choos. Toddler boys love trains and this is such a great set that helps practice fine motor skills while stacking the blocks on the train cars.

Tackle Buddy Inflatable Punching Bag
We purchased this for our oldest when he was two and he spent countless hours tackling!
This is an excellent way to use up some of that wild toddler energy and get your son worn out for bedtime or naptime.
Check price for a Tackle Buddy Inflatable Punching Bag here!
Construction Toy Power Workbench
My sons both always have loved watching Daddy work on projects around the house and love having their own tool bench to “work like Daddy.”
I love that this set also has an option to purchase just the drill too – often that is THE favorite toy from the tool box!
We take ours outside when my husband is working in his shed and my toddler son works right along with him.

Fisher-Price Little People Animal Friends Farm
What 2-year-old kids don’t love animals? Some of the best learning toys, in my opinion, are the ones that allow for different ways to play and this set showcases different animals found on the farm. Little People are my FAVS!
I love this barn as it can fold easily for storage and the animals can fit inside. I also love how it reminds me of the toy barn I had as a little girl. I take the Little People figurines with us on the go as well and they are great toys for a big sister or big brother as they are also safe for those moments when a baby sibling may get his or her tiny hands on them!

Little Tikes TotSports Easy Hit Golf Set + 3 balls + 2 clubs
One of the important things to me as a parent is to provide opportunities for my husband and I to bond with our children.
Finding child-size versions of activities my husband and I enjoy doing are great gift ideas because kids LOVE to mimic Mommy and Daddy and it can provide a quality time activity together that we BOTH love! This little golf set is a perfect starter set for Daddy’s Little Caddy 😉

Melissa & Doug Car Carrier Truck and Cars Wooden Toy Set With 1 Truck and 4 Cars
This is my favorite kind of toy because it has multiple parts and pieces that are all a nice size and won’t easily get lost but also work well together AND can be played with separately.
It’s a wonderful gift for a second birthday party and one I like to keep on hand as a gift to give for boys around this age. 2-year-old boys can’t get enough of vehicles and this is one of my top picks!
Toddler Toys Race Track
Full disclosure: I haven’t yet had any personal experience with this toy. My youngest son is turning two this year and I’ve already purchased this after a recommendation from a friend who says it’s her son’s FAVORITE toy EVER.
I know the repetitive motion of putting the different colors of cars down the track over and over will be something he’ll love and that will also help him work on important skills like hand-eye coordination.

Best Gifts for a 2 Year Old Girl
Just like two year old boys, two year old girls really develop their own fun personalities and interests as two year olds.
I love all the fun boy toys and little girlie items! These gift ideas for 2 year olds are especially great for little girls!
KidKraft Tiffany Bow Lil’ Doll High Chair
My girls received a baby doll when they were one (it’s on my one year old recommendation list here!) and it’s a great toy to build on and purchase accessories and additional items for!
We LOVE this high chair. Even with kids climbing in it and trying to sit in it, it’s held up 😉 #miracle.
I love that it’s simple and plain white and can sit out in a child’s bedroom without being tacky.

Melissa & Doug Mine to Love Baby Food Bottle Set
Along with the high chair a fun play food set is a must for every baby doll!
Girls, as well as boys, LOVE pretend play with a baby doll. Especially when it comes to feeding the baby!
I try to avoid toys with a billion pieces (because who has time to keep up with them all) and I like how simple this set is! It’s also important to plan ahead for where to store all the baby doll accessories and items, read this post for tips.

Frozen Sing Along Boom Box Speaker with Microphone
A fun gift idea for 2-year-old birthday gifts or Christmas presents or any other holiday for that matter is a sing-along boom box!
A favorite thing for my kids during the toddler years has been to put on little shows for us and they love holding the microphones in their little hands and belting out to their favorite Frozen songs!

Fisher-Price Little People Big Helpers Home, Pink
A first dollhouse may be on your child’s list this year and I have LOTS of tips about which dollhouse is the best in this post. One of my favorites is the Fisher-Price line of dollhouses.
I love that it includes lots of the furniture and people and that they are realistic looking but still little-kid friendly too!

Skip Hop Toddler Backpack
All two year olds love to gather (and hoard!) every item possible and place it in some sort of bag.
I find this to be especially true of my girls and love to gift them a little backpack. Small and light enough for them to carry themselves around the house (and great if they have older kids in school that they want to copy!) and also a legit book bag that can be used as needed too for preschool or daycare!
Check price for a Skip Hop Toddler Backpack here!
KidKraft Vintage Kitchen – White
This is a bigger ticket item, but well worth it. And another one that both our girls and boys have LOVED and gotten SO MUCH USE OUT OF. It’s a gift that will last a long time and be enjoyed for many years to come!
I did a TON of research and read lots and lots of reviews before investing in a play kitchen and I chose this one because I love the design and I also love that there is so much storage space to store all the playfood items.
Check price for a KidKraft Vintage Kitchen here!
Princess Purse Set
I think a toy purse and typical “purse items” is a gift to give to a girl at every single age.
The older the child gets, the more realistic the purse can be. 2-year-old girls will have so much fun with the bright colors with this purse and accessory set and it makes for the perfect gift.
A toy purse is my favorite gift to purchase for a toddler girl as I know it’s something they will love and it’s small enough not to take up a bunch of space in storing it!
