Do you ever hear about a product over and over again and then when you finally try it out wonder…how in the world did I survive without this?
Enter the HALO SleepSack. Y’all! I didn’t realize what my world of mommy-hood was missing out on until now!!!
I have heard from many friends (and many mom groups on Facebook) about how awesome the HALO SleepSacks are. I never really looked into them much until recently. HALO contacted me and offered to send me one for review. Free stuff? Sure! I’ll try it! And I LOVE it.
Everyone knows that Tess has been my struggle sleeper. She would often wake up in the middle of the night and she felt cool to the touch. Obviously I didn’t want to put any blankets in her crib and once she was weaned from the swaddle I wasn’t sure what else I could really do to help warm her up. We tested out her room and it’s a whole six degrees cooler than the rest of our house. Yikes. Our electric bill was already sky high from trying to warm her room! The SleepSack has been AMAZING. It keeps her warm while also remaining safe.
At first I only used the SleepSack at night. I put her in her usual footed pajamas and then put the SleepSack over them. I requested to test out the fleece sleep sack (I got a size small for her if you need a reference!). It kept her warm and helped her sleep (and made Zach happy by being able to lower the thermostat down a little!). I call that a win-win-win 🙂 If you live in a colder climate I’d for sure recommend looking at their newest SleepSack: the winter weight!
Once Tess started finding her feet she started having some nap issues. She’d wake up and want to play with her toes rather than sleep. She also would take off her socks during nap and play with them (I legit found 6 socks behind her crib!). I decided to try the SleepSack one day for naps and it’s been a total game changer. She now sleeps SOLID for naps and when she wakes she will fall back to sleep so much quicker now that she’s not distracted by her toes or socks! And I know her little toes stay warm yet also have room to breathe. I never like keeping my babies in socks all the time because I feel like it’d be so uncomfortable (yes, I’m one of those people who can’t stand sleeping with socks on!). Now I don’t have to mess with socks, I don’t have to worry about them getting lost, and I can ENJOY nap time without having to worry about a waking baby!
I’ve been using it the past couple weeks for every nap and night time. When I first get it out she smiles SO BIG and it’s become a signal for her to know that sleep time is coming. However, it’s also not a sleep prop. She doesn’t have to have it to be able to sleep and I have no concerns about “weaning” her from it. I think we will ALWAYS probably continue to use one at night. Once it warms up I’ll be investing in a cotton SleepSack (I’m sure her room will probably be six degrees warmer in the summers too. Double yikes!). I have friends who still use SleepSacks for their toddlers! Tess will probably have one in every size until she’s old enough for a “big girl bed” 🙂
Can’t you tell our love for the SleepSack is mutual?
I am truly in love with our SleepSack (I actually already bought another one to have extra for laundry day or in case of blow out diaper situations!). Not only do I love the product, but I especially love the company.
When I opened the SleepSack I was instantly impressed with the “back to sleep” logo located on the front of the SleepSack. It serves as a reminder to anyone who may be watching our baby that it’s critical to lay her down on her back to sleep. Every single time! Tess is able now to roll from her back to her belly. Yes, she’s still able to get to her belly even wearing the SleepSack. When babies are old enough to roll themselves then it’s okay to leave them be. But I will NOT ever lay her down on her belly at the start of sleep time and I appreciate this reminder for anyone who does put Tess down for sleep!
HALO is a company founded on sleep safe practices. Their founder lost his own child to SIDS and has made it his mission to raise awareness about sleep safe for babies. HALO also provides free Swaddles to over 1,300 hospitals nationwide. How amazing is that?!?!
This company doesn’t just talk about safe sleep they truly focus on it. Their entire foundation is based on helping parents learn about safe sleep practices and their goal is to keep babies safer. I especially appreciate that in every email communication I’ve had with them that they include tips for safer sleep!
How often do we see pictures like this one on social media? After reading this article on Huffington Post it’s clear that sleep safe awareness is very low in our country! It’s always good to have a reminder of the following SAFE SLEEP TIPS:
This is NOT SAFE
ALWAYS
- Place baby to sleep on his or her back at nap time and at night time
- Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fit snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet
- Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (including loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
- Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
- Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in her or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
- Room share, but don’t bed share. Bed sharing can put a child at risk for suffocation.
NEVER
- Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chars, water beds, quilts, sheep skins, etc)
- Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit
- Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
This IS safe!
Tess and I are both now total HALO SleepSack believers! She’s able to be warm and sleep contently and I’m able to know that while she’s sleeping…she’s also safe.
