Sad day to be done with blogging about Disney. But happy day to be moving forward as that one trip took up a solid amount of my blogging time 😉
This post covers a summary of Kye during the month of February (yes, you read that right…February)…it was his last month of being four!
Parties: We attended TWO fun birthday parties in Feb! Kye has been invited to many parties through school but has only been able to attend a select few of them. It’s not that I don’t want him to go to parties, it’s just that it’s tough to make it to them with our schedules. Plus I don’t know the families of most of the parties he’s invited to and would not feel comfortable bringing Britt along so it would require childcare for her which I just don’t think is a justifiable reason to ask someone to babysit, ya know? So far it hasn’t been an issue for him to miss out on the parties. We have a good group of friends outside of school and their parties are “must attend” for us!
First up in Feb was Lorelai’s birthday. It made me a little sad about not having a legit party for Kye this year because Kye and Lorelai have been to every single one of each other’s birthday parties since the very beginning!!! She had her party at Tiny Bubbles and it was AWESOME. Seriously! If you are looking for a place to have a party, Tiny Bubbles is IT. They handled EVERYTHING and all Robyn had to do was show up and have fun 🙂 Kye was pumped to be at “Mrs Margie’s” but get to just play the whole time with his friends 🙂
The party was during nap time so Britt wasn’t able to go but Kye and I enjoyed some time together and even hit up Target after to get us some slushies 🙂
Another birthday party this month was Olive’s! Seth and Crissy are another crew whose parties we always do our best to attend and they are the same for ours. They had her party at their house and it was a great time! Britt is more Olive’s friend than Kye is so I divided up the party pics into both of their monthly posts 😉

Writing: Writing is still one of Kye’s favorite things to do. He is getting pretty good at spelling words on his own (in this picture you can see how he spelled blue, red, cat, gray and a solid attempt at green!). He even hand wrote every single one of his valentine’s for the first time this year!
Filling out Valentine’s!
Outside Time: The weather is getting nicer and Kye no longer takes as long as naps anymore. Usually when he gets up he draws or colors inside with me quietly until Britt wakes up. Zach and I had a talk about it and we (well mostly he) decided that Kye is now old enough to play outside in the back yard on his own. Y’all. I was SO NERVOUS about it. But Kye is very, very obedient and I do agree that he is trustworthy enough to handle the responsibility. He knows not to get in the pool or to do anything dangerous. Plus if he did fall in the pool…he really, really knows how to swim. Our yard has a big privacy fence and we have huge picture windows in the living room where I can see him (and my desk is next to a window where I can also watch him). So we started this month letting him go outside to play and he’s done GREAT with it. He enjoys playing on his own and it gets him outdoors! Of course the only thing he ever wants to do is rake the leaves or dig holes 😉
Laundry Delivery: As I get more and more pregnant I am thinking up more and more ways the kids can help me get things done around the house 😉 I’m thankful for pregnancy in that it does force me to make them be more independent!!! When I do laundry I sort everyones clean clothes into laundry baskets and then take the basket to that persons room to put the clothes away. Kye and Britt love to help deliver all the baskets to the rooms where they need to go 🙂 I love how well they work together to get the job done!
Dressing Self: I leave Kye’s clothes out in his room now and he completely dresses himself each morning. I know at this age many parents let their children pick out what they want to wear to school, but I still like that control over what he wears and how he looks and having things match 🙂 One day I forgot to put away the tie Kye had worn to church and he came out of his room dressed like this and thinking it was what he was going to wear to school 😉
Seeing Racial Differences: I have never pointed out racial/ethnic differences to our children. Living in the south you do see a decent bit of racism still and it’s ridiculous. I figure if I don’t make a point of discussing ways that we are different in our skin color, then the kids won’t really skin color as something to judge someone from? For the first time ever Kye commented to me about it. We were at the hospital for his lab work and he leaned over and whispered to me “that lady across from us looks weird because she has a brown face and is brown everywhere.” I took it as it was time to have “the talk” and so I used our time waiting for the appointment to talk to him about how God makes us all different and all special. We talked about ways we are different from each other and from other people we know…the biggest difference our family talks about is how Kye and Mommy have big heads and Daddy and Britt have small heads, so we talked about that. And then I talked to him and told him that God also made people different by the color of their skin and that it’s not any more different than us having bigger sized heads than Daddy and Britt 😉 I think I handled it okay?
Other Stuff from this Month:
- Kye’s lips get rather chapped in the cooler weather and he says “my lips are chapeled”
- He’s learning about US Presidents at school and came home and told Britt and I all about them! Here’s a video 🙂
- He had a few days this month where he really didn’t want to go to school and wanted to stay home with us. That hasn’t really happened much in the past and was a surprise to me. But I think Britt staying home and playing the whole morning and him having to go to work at school is the main reason why!
- Even though he’s playing outside many afternoons after naps now, I do enjoy our time together when he stays in with me. We have his light timer come on at 3 so if he is awake he can get up then and usually Britt doesn’t wake until 4. One afternoon he got up at 3 and Britt slept until 5 that day and Kye literally talked to me for the FULL two hours. Non-stop. Told me a bunch of long stories and was just super mega chatty. So funny!
Here’s some other pics from this month:
We had fun shopping together and he was SO good reading this little book all by himself!
I love this view in my rearview mirror every day 🙂
Bread lover for life!
He’s starting to get VERY silly with photo posing 😉
I love his hair like this 🙂
