Moving Day

Dec 30th was the BIG move. I had been mentally counting down for that day. I was tired of living in a million boxes. Tired of taking load after load to the new house. Tired of spending ALL my time dealing with house building stuff. Tired of waiting really…just READY to be out of transition πŸ™‚

I was SO nervous to see who all would come out to help us move. I don’t like relying on others for things – both Zach and I are very independent – and having to rely on other people for moving was not a feeling I enjoyed. It’s why I over-worked and over-stressed in the days leading up to the move. Since Zach couldn’t do any lifting I made it my own personal goal to move as much of the stuff light enough for me to carry that I could. I didn’t want our helpers on moving day wasting their time on moving stuff I could have done myself. When people came over that morning they were SHOCKED by how much was already in the house! Pretty much all that was left to move was the heavy stuff πŸ™‚

We had a GREAT turn out! The moving began at 8 am and we were done with moving all the stuff from Mr. Rusty’s house (where we stored everything), all the stuff from Mom’s house to our new house, and all of Mom’s stuff from her garage to the house by 1:00!!! Isn’t that awesome???? Even better was that I didn’t have to lift a finger πŸ™‚ Zach went to Mr. Rusty’s that morning with the truck and Brandon and he helped make sure everything got loaded and unload safely. I got the rest of the light stuff us women could handle then took control of telling everyone where to put what. It was the MOST organized move of my life! We pretty much have been easily able to locate everything πŸ™‚

I thought we’d still be moving stuff by dark but instead by the time 6:30 rolled around Robyn and I had unpacked almost the entire kitchen and set up my computer and the guys had put together several pieces of furniture!!! How awesome is that???

I have ZERO pictures from moving day. One reason is that, yes, I was still sick and mega out of it. The other reason is I’d feel kinda awkward taking pictures of people moving our stuff ya know? But I do want to thank each and every person who came to help us: Mr. Rusty, Matt, Robyn, Brandon, Chrissy, Selena, Glenn, Shauna, Bryan, Dylan, Clyde Jr, London, Trey, Jason, Kris, David, Brooke and Mark. I still can’t get over the number of people who helped! It was awesome and they were all so patient and careful with our things. It couldn’t have gone any better! Other than a couple scratches here and there it was perfect.

There were a few rather funny stories that happened during the move:

  • One of the helpers lost her purse and no one could find it anywhere. Guess where they found it? In a box in Mom’s attic!
  • Levi was on edge with the fight the day prior, being in a new place, and having tons of people he didn’t know. When Brooke and Mark came over we failed to properly introduce them to Levi and when Brooke was helping me unpack somethings he got territorial and bit her! He’s never done something like that and it was pretty embarrassing. Luckily she’s not going to sue me πŸ™‚
  • We had Kye stay with Mrs. Charlotte for the day so that first night was just Zach and I. I felt just awful and needed something warm so I decided to use the cook top for the first time to make some soup. It didn’t work. Then we went to use the kitchen sink and it started leaking water everywhere. Then the next day we went to get something out of the new freezer and it wasn’t working so alllll our stuff had thawed out. Awesome start to the new place right?

Even with the new house glitches Zach and I were still pumped to be moved in! I was proud of him for not pushing himself with his back. He really didn’t move anything and that was a blessing. He’s also been good about not doing too much lifting sense. We still have his grill and Kye’s sandbox at Mom’s house but he’s been patiently waiting for someone to help him. Hopefully he can always be this cautious so we won’t deal with more back injuries!

Get excited because from here on out all the pictures I take of Kye will be in our new home πŸ™‚ Thanks again for ALL the help from everyone and all the prayers during this time. My stress level has gone down a million percent now that we’re in and it’ll go down even further once we can get these workers to FINISH the house so we can actually CLOSE on it!!!
