Every year we have a family meal on NYE and enjoy it together. This year we decided to up our family tradition game and make it a fancy feast. We all got dressed up and made it more of an event rather than just a dinner. I got party hats and some sparkling grape juice. We talked about our favorite moments from the past year and our hopes and goals for the coming year. It was SO FUN!
Britt is a little hostess and really takes after her daddy with an enjoyment of preparing a meal and having a nice presentation. They were so cute together in the kitchen as he taught her how to fold napkins 🙂
She did all the place settings herself!
I love these sort of traditions as it’s a good excuse to USE my china! I love my wedding china and it’s one time of the year that I know for sure it’ll get used!
I told the girls they could wear anything they wanted and I’d do their hair and makeup. They loved it (Tess is upset because she said she didn’t want makeup which, duh, I said was fine but she’s 3 so it upset her to not want it and to be told she didn’t have to have it?)
Fancy girls!
Tess decided she wanted Britt to do her makeup rather than Mommy…so she looks extra fancy 😉
When you feel fancy…you just gotta twirl! And twirl!
This kid.
The crew!
Loving the hat 😉
Our kind of celebration…fancy on top…comfortable on the bottom ha!
Gotta give kisses to all my guys!
This is how we party!
This is totally my new favorite picture of Kye. He was CRACKING UP at how funny he thought we all looked in our party hats and said he didn’t want to wear one. Guess we have a pre-teen on our hands huh?
Can’t forget my other guy!
Daddy did it right with yummy salad, steak, mac and cheese, his mom’s left over dressing from Christmas and queen zipper peas (our fav!)
I did make my famous sweet tea so I do get some credit right? 😉
We love a good “cheers toast” as the kids call it!
Fancy cups for our fancy sparkling grape juice!
Our dinner conversation was so great! I got a big poster board and we all wrote down our goals for the coming year which is something I really enjoyed doing together. I was especially impressed with Britt when we had this conversation. She was VERY reflective and thoughtful in what she said she wanted to work on. Right away she said she wanted to be more brave because she was disappointed with how upset and dramatic she’d been when getting her flu shot (which was back in October!). I thought that was such a great goal and I loved seeing that she was truly thinking about ways she can better herself in the coming year. It was an inspiration to me!
We wanted to use our chocolate fountain for dessert but it didn’t work!!! So Zach just melted chocolate instead and we did some dipping with lots of a variety of treats. It was SO FUN and for sure a family dessert we will do in the future (best dipping item were the strawberry wafers).
Tess started doing THE funniest thing where she asks for something in a different voice and does this little thing with her hand. It’s hilarious and she’ll do it on demand for us all the time now. “Can I have a marshmallow?” Totally a new favorite thing Tessie does 😉
Had fun playing a game together before bed!
The kids got Yeti in my Spaghetti for Christmas and it’s ADORABLE.
While none of us stayed up until midnight (new baby probz) we had SUCH a fun time celebrating the end of 2017 and the start of 2018 together!
2017 was a year of blessing for our family in Zach’s health being on track and the welcoming of Spear! We’re all excited to see what joys 2018 will bring!
