Today I’m linking up with Momfessionals for Show and Tell Tuesday! I’m sharing about my beauty routine 🙂
Growing up I never had any interest in makeup or doing hair or anything like that. I wasn’t a tomboy at all, but I wasn’t overly girly either. I wore a little lose powder and eye shadow in high school but that was it. I didn’t even wear mascara until sophomore year of college and didn’t own foundation until I was getting married!
Always a girly girl, even without being a high maintenance one 😉
I’m now 30 and still have so much to learn in the areas of hair and makeup. When I first started to be more interested in makeup I did a couple lessons at a local Mac counter. I am REALLY good at following instructions and they taught me what to do to enhance my best feature (my eyes) so I feel confident in my ability with eye makeup. But that’s about it 😉 I’m still very much a work in progress with everything else (especially hair…although that’s improving!).
While I’ve never been huge into makeup and hair, I’ve always been pretty hardcore about looking put together. I was never that girl rocking cheerleading shorts or pjs to class 😉 I always get ready for the day!
My routine is pretty quick, I can get fully ready in about 20 minutes now! Here’s my morning routine:
1. Wash my face and use my Mary Kay Timewise Products
I’m especially obsessed with the Foundation Primer
right now. My skin is very oily while I’m nursing (it did the same thing with Britt too!) so it helps big time to tackle the shine!
2. Apply foundation: MAC Studio Fix
3. Do a little contouring with Mary Kay Bronzer and Blush (I’m not in love with either of them but I bought them so I’m using them up before going back to my regular favorite blush from Mac!)
4. For my eyes I love Naked Palette. I have several combos I like to use. I have a large lid area so it’s a lot of room to play with eye shadow!
5. Probably my favorite eye trick is to use a white eyeliner pencil
in the corners of the eyes and along the lower lid (where you’d put eye liner). It really helps make the eyes look more awake and helps them to pop. I read it on some Pinterest makeup thing and have been doing it every sense! Best $4 I’ve spent for sure!
6. I am not a fan of heavy eye liner. I have a lot of eye dryness (thanks lasik!) and also just think eye liner can go wrong very easily. I use an angled brush
and some eye shadow as my eye liner. I only do the upper lid and then a little in the outside edge of the lower one. I also read somewhere that it helps makes your eyes look bigger rather than doing full liner along the bottom.
7. A big trick I learned with mascara is to use a primer! I always wear water proof mascara. That way I don’t have to worry about raccoon eyes in the pool or beach or, heck, even just on an emotional day. I don’t think I’ve ever had it run once? By applying the primer it allows the mascara to hold really well but to also come off smoothly each night! I’ve never tried any other primer than MAC Prep + Prime
and I highly recommend it!
8. Once I’m done with my makeup I take my hair out of my bun and spend just a few short minutes getting that new beachy hair look I’m going for then I’m done! {link to my new hair routine here!}
9. As a little kid I HATED the way it felt to kiss my mom when she had on lipstick. I still even hate the feeling of it so I tend to never wear it. My in-laws are big on some lip color so I’m trying to do better about it! I have been keeping a lip stain in my purse as it’s less sticky feeling and then I swipe a gloss over it. I pretty much only remember to put it on when I’m getting out of the car to go somewhere so if you see me within 5 min of getting out of the car then you might see some color on my lips. I’ve been trying out a variety of CoverGirl lip stains
they are cheap enough to where if I don’t like it I don’t feel like I have to use it!
10. I’m also really big on having a TAN. I LOVE the look of a “healthy glow” and to achieve mine I use my home spray system. I’m SO thankful I bought it and it’s been a game changer for me in my confidence. It’s so great to not feel pressure to lay out in the dangerous sun in order to achieve the look I love! I can just spray tan once a week and keep a great color! I also love simple, cheap Cocoa Butter Lotion
. It keeps the color really well and keeps my skin soft!
I like to keep my routine simple and quick. It’s always my goal to look natural and not overly “done up.” I don’t have too many pictures of myself but all my favorites are me surrounded by my babies anyway 🙂 Can’t wait to read everyone else’s beauty routines…hoping to pick up some new tips!
