Thanksgiving 2016

I’ve probably mentioned this before but I’m just not a huge Thanksgiving fan? It’s my least favorite holiday. Ironically it’s also the holiday we were supposed to spend with my side of the family every year. The past few years we’ve figured out ways to create our own special traditions for the holiday. We make our turkey cookies, eat lunch at Mema’s with Zach’s fam and then have ice cream for dinner. What kid wouldn’t be crunk about getting to eat ice cream (and tons of toppings) for dinner?!?! Especially when kids don’t really like Thanksgiving food anyways!

It’s been a really good routine for our family and this year we mixed it up a bit. We originally had planned to take Tess to Disney for the first time in March of 2017, when we go for Kye’s birthday. However the crowds are worse for March than they are around Britt’s birthday in Dec! We figured it all out and it made the most sense to extend Britt’s birthday trip and make THAT Tess’s first visit then do a shorter trip in March for Kye’s bday. We decided to actually head down to Disney ON Thanksgiving day! We still did all of our traditions, just added in a 3 1/2 hour drive to the day 😉

This year Daddy was also home to do our Turkey Cookies with us! I think he was probably pretty amazed that I do them every year solo with the kids b/c they are pretty tough to do 😉 It was also Tess’s first year participating!

It’s awesome having a 7 year old in the house…he is a LEGIT help!

Our Elf on the Shelf, Hermey, always arrives on Thanksgiving morning. Kye made signs to make sure no one would touch him and they were pretty hilarious!

He came back! And brought muffins!

Ready for Thanksgiving at Mema’s!

I totally spaced out on any sort of planned Thanksgiving attire (I was too busy packing up all the themed Disney outfits!) but I had these coordinating dresses for the girls I got on clearance awhile back at Old Navy and they worked great!

No matter what we’re grateful, thankful and SO blessed!

We had a great time at Mema’s visiting with everyone and playing!

(and Kye sang a “thanksgiving song” for us)

We hit the road from Mema’s and kicked things off with dvd player issues in the car. So frustrating! Technology is such a blessing and such a headache at the same time, right?!?! We spent 45 min trying to get it to work and ended up not being able to fix it. Of course it was Kye’s screen that was messed up (but hey it’s better than it being Tess’s!) so he just watched a movie with Britt on the way down and on the way back home he watched a movie on Zach’s computer 🙂 We reminded him that when we were kids (every child’s favorite phrase right?) we didn’t have dvd players at all so he could be okay without it 😉

On our way into Disney we hit up a gas station to pick up a tub of ice cream and I had packed all of the toppings so we could dig straight into our DINNER! For the past couple of trips we’ve been trying out different areas surrounding Disney. Someday we’d LOVE to own a house down there and want to test out all the areas we can. We were SUPER happy where we stayed this time! It was Indian Creek which is super close to Windsor Hills and is only a few MILES from the parks. We did pay a little more (but still 8 nights for under $1,000 for a 4 bedroom house with a pool!) than we usually pay while staying in Davenport but our travel time to and from the parks was cut in half which was GREAT since we did come back for naps almost every day! We LOVED the house we stayed in and took notes because they were the most thoughtful renters and had so many little things that were so helpful to us during our stay (like tons of hangers and a great selection of spices!).

Ready to grub!

We enjoyed our ice cream dinner and talked about things we were thankful for and what we were excited about in the coming week!

It was such a fun day and I vote we go to Disney every Thanksgiving 😉
