This year the week of VBS was also an insane week for our family. It was the week following my bed rest, the week after Carter was born, the week Kye started golf camp, and a week where Zach was out of town for the entire week. Whew. I get exhausted just remembering it!!!
Our VBS is Sun-Wed from 6-8 in the evening. That’s a late night even for Kye (who goes to bed at 7:45)…but for Britt?!?! Child goes to sleep at 7 each evening! I had NO plans on having her attend VBS this year. However, with Zach out of town I didn’t really have any other option. I did not want Kye to miss it so she went too! I’m SUPER thankful I didn’t volunteer to help. I volunteered while pregnant with Britt and it was too much on me and I was much less along pregnant than I was this time around. Instead I dropped the kids off at 6 and then had a couple hours to myself before picking them back up. It worked out great as I was able to run several errands and have some “me” time!
The theme this year was Spy Academy and the kids LOVED it! I was very thankful to learn they served dinner for the kids so it made my “single mom” week a little bit easier too! I didn’t know they had dinner the first night and Kye came home and said they gave two choices for drinks: white milk or chocolate milk and that everyone else in his class chose the chocolate but he knew he isn’t supposed to drink it so he got the white. I was SO proud of him! That’s showing his character that he still follows our family rules without having to be reminded and even without us there! (Sidenote: no, my kids haven’t ever had chocolate milk! I don’t think it’s wrong to let kids drink it…but I just feel like there is already SO MUCH junk food and I’d rather keep their food choices as healthy as I can for as long as I can!).
They did iron on shirts this year and y’all I STINK at iron on!!! It was HARD! They ended up turning out cute though and Britt loved rocking her shirt every night and matching Kye π
Gotta have a spy glass π
I love that so many people took pictures during the week and posted them on Facebook. It’s always great to see that the kids are having fun! I love that I can trust my children and their behavior when I’m not around. I had NO concerns about dropping them off. I knew they would make good choices and I knew they would enjoy themselves. It’s such a blessing and it’s a good reminder to me with the new baby coming: consistency, structure, and discipline make a difference! It pays off SO much sooner than you would think!!! Here’s pics of the kids during the week!
He drew a picture of him, Britt and the baby π
Listening so well!
She LOVED the mustache haha
One of the nights Lorelai came along as a visitor with Kye and Robyn and I were able to have some time together to get dinner while the kids had fun at VBS! Girl time and Mexican food…def an awesome evening for me π
I had people tell me that it was worth Britt being up late to attend VBS. Honestly, it wasn’t. I’m SO glad she had fun and I’m SO glad it all worked out. But it made the days much tougher because she was so tired. I don’t regret her going as I simply had no other option…but when Leo is that age I don’t plan on taking him or her. I never took Kye this young! We didn’t get home and in the bed until close to 9 each night which is two hours past Britt’s bed time. And since we had golf camp we had to get up and get out the door so she couldn’t sleep in either. Kye was even a little whiney and such from staying up that late and having such a busy week! It’s a lot on them!
Overall though they really loved VBS. I’m so thankful we are members of our church! We have a TON of great Christian families with young children and I LOVE that our kids will continue to grow up with other like-minded children! I pray that they each continue to remain around such great kids and will grow up continuing to put the Lord first in all that they do π So thankful to everyone who worked so hard to make VBS so awesome…it was a great time!!!
And we survived the week π

I love how B coordinated her red and black pants, bow, and necklace to match the shirt! Our VBS is from 6-9…talk about a late night! And we both really needed to teach. It definitely makes for a tough week!
